October 31, 2012 - DTI Group successfully complete Cairns and Rockhampton Tilt Train HD forward-facing camera system.

DTI Group have successfully delivered and implemented forward facing camera systems for Queensland Rail’s high speed, cross country Tilt Train fleet. The project was carried out in close cooperation with Queensland Rails engineering and maintenance workshop at Bowen Hills Queensland. The Tilt Trains operate overnight services between Brisbane to Rockhampton and further north to Cairns. All Tilt Train Passengers enjoy business class seating with personal entertainment screens and laptop connections.

At the heart of the DTI system is the latest rail rated, MDR5-L recorder. The MDR5-L provides true multitasking functionality, as it simultaneously captures records and live streams High Definition, high frame rate footage. After months of extensive on-board testing numerous high end HD cameras, Queensland Rail selected a high performance digital colour camera which was further optimised by DTI engineers for low light, high motion colour capture. The MDR5-L recording system also has hot-swap, mirrored storage, independent analogue output and a multicast digital video stream for direct feed to the passenger entertainment system. The systems’ video output channel provides a live view for passengers in the direction of travel and (whist not currently enabled) the MDR5-L GPS tracking facility can also output a dynamic regional map for all passenger displays, plus blank the live camera feed in predefined GPS zones. When connected to Queensland Rails’ wireless data communications infrastructure, the system will also report to DTI’s GPS-based vehicle location system and DTI's fleet management software suite.

Richard Johnson, DTI CEO said: “We are very pleased that Queensland Rail selected DTI as their communications and CCTV equipment supplier this important contract.  The Tilt Train project further builds on DTI’s success in providing turn-key transit surveillance and communications solutions to the rail industry”.
