May 17, 2011 - DTI Group to Provide Video Surveillance Systems for Adelaide Trams

DTI Group is pleased to announce an order for 17 video surveillance systems by the Government of South Australia for the Adelaide trams. The Adelaide trams provide services between the central business district of Adelaide and the seaside suburb of Glenelg, as well as to the Adelaide Railway Station and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Hindmarsh.

Each tram will be equipped with DTI's latest hybrid Mobile Digital Recorder (MDR-5) with six analogue cameras plus two forward-facing high resolution megapixel IP cameras. A DTI supplied touch-screen Driver Display Unit presents the view of the cameras in the trams and a single touch on any individual camera image expands that image to full screen size. A second touch reduces the image back to its original size.

The scope of works also includes DTI's GPS-based vehicle location system, wireless data communications infrastructure, and DTI's fleet management software suite. DTI's wireless infrastructure and comprehensive back-end CCTV management system will centralise and coordinate the tram CCTV network and allow video evidence to be recovered from trams through an on-line automated CCTV 'booking' system providing significant benefits through the easy management of equipment, video retrieval and video storage.

This project further extends the citywide solution which DTI supplied in 2006 for Adelaide’s fleet of over 900 buses. In 2008, DTI signed a three-year agreement to provide ongoing hardware and software maintenance for the bus surveillance systems in Adelaide with the South Australian Government. The agreement included additional services such as help-desk support, equipment monitoring, equipment reporting, and hardware maintenance.

This project further builds on DTI's success across Australia in providing advanced citywide transit surveillance solutions and services in over half of Australia’s capital cities.

Keith Hughes, General Manager for DTI in Australia, said: “We are pleased with the continued support of the South Australian Government and its progressive approach towards an integrated solution across multiple modes of transit. We look forward to assisting the Government achieve its safety and security initiatives.”
