October 14, 2009 - DTI Group Wins Significant Installation Contract for Queensland Rail

DTI Group Limited (DTI) is pleased to announce that it has won a multi-million dollar contract for the installation of communications and advanced video surveillance systems for 143 Queensland Rail (QR) trains. The contract award follows on from DTI’s successful delivery of production trial systems under a separate contract, to be installed on two Queensland Rail SMU220 trains in November 2009.

Under the contract, the installation services will encompass:

  • Utilisation of DTI’s expert team of mobile systems installers.
  • 24/7 round the clock installation to meet a tight installation schedule in order to minimise disruption to QR’s passenger services.
  • Remote system checks via WiFi and 3G to ensure connectivity to DTI’s backoffice remote helpdesk services from the train.
  • An extensive training program for remote train system operators, drivers and maintenance crew.

The installation program will run for approximately 18 months from a purpose built facility within QR’s Mayne Depot. It will create employment for numerous skilled local engineers, with the likelihood continuing work prospects in the future.

As part of a feasibility study, during the initial train trial, DTI and QR will also run parallel trials for a number of world first technologies. This includes advanced video based, mobile passenger density measurement software, jointly developed by Curtin University in WA and DTI’s own software development team. The successful development of this software alone could provide valuable real-time information which will assist QR with fleet management.

Fred Erdbrink, Business Development Manager said: “This is a challenging project and we are delighted with QR’s choice to engage DTI’s installation team for this next exciting stage. We are also pleased that our US and European offices report that our system is already gaining world recognition for the successful deployment of emerging technologies, developed in response to the demanding and specific requirements of some of the most experienced rail operators in the world. As a result, we are confident that DTI’s rail solutions will place Australia at the forefront of rail passenger communications and surveillance technology world wide “.
